Happy Birthday Heidi

“Birthdays are nature's way of telling us to eat more cake.”

Happy Birthday Heidi !

Children of the same family, the same blood, with the same first associations and habits, have some means of enjoyment in their power, which no subsequent connections can supply...

~Jane Austen, Mansfield Park, 1814~

If your sister is in a tearing hurry to go out and cannot catch your eye, she's wearing your best sweater.

~Pam Brown~

You keep your past by having sisters. As you get older, they're the only ones who don't get bored if you talk about your memories.

~Deborah Moggach~

When sisters stand shoulder to shoulder, who stands a chance against us?

~Pam Brown~

It's hard to be responsible, adult and sensible all the time. How good it is to have a sister whose heart is as young as your own.

~ March Birthdays ~

Were duly celebrated!

Poetic Granddaughters

Lady Spring

Gorgeous Spring, she warms the earth,
And all the buds do laugh with mirth,
For when she comes the blossoms burst,
And any of us could be the first,
To look upon the beauty there,
when Lady Spring is in the air.

Speaking of poems
Ilex writes poems and Ivy knows poems

Ilex & Ivy

The Heralds Of spring
The earth smells damp;
And daffodils small and bright,
Come yellow and white.
The grass contains dew drops
Which flash and sparkle in the light.

Thunder clouds blow over
On the rolling green lawn
And as soon as they came are gone,
As the world silently waits
For the coming of dawn.

A waterfall cascades,
Like a roar of spring thunder
Tumbling down the cliff asunder,
Leaving us to marvel
At God's majesty and wonder.

Spring has returned. The earth is like a child that knows poems.
~Rainer Maria Rilke~

These daffodils have been returning and increasing every year for 50 years or more. They spring up around the site of an old, long demolished homestead, of which there is absolutely no sign ~ except for these amazing, hardy flowers.

Their scent drifts my way and their color then catches my eye from a wonderful distance.

Living Lovely with Family

The building of this little log cabin was a labor of love and inspiration by my husband at a time when we probably had more time than money. It ended up being a grand project and a huge success. More than we probably could have imagined at the time. Some of Heidi's biggest schemes and fondest memories are tied up here. So it's appropriate that I share these photos as my contribution this week to Heidi's Living Lovely with Family( Special Treats addition,) since this is her birthday week.

Vintage photos of Heidi

Lovable, Cuddly, Affectionate .

Her daddy made this rocking lion and she loved to ride it.

Well I guess her passion for books began early.

She had some trauma and drama with our horses. Probably not some of her fondest memories but I think this picture is adorable.
I can see her son Leif's face here.

And a great big sis to Shannon

Heidi's Personality

Heidi is Sensitive,
Loving, and although an introvert, has always
been Talkative.

She has so much going on in her head.(Brilliant I mean)

She loves to plan things, far into the future.
Having children has changed that more than anything.

Now, living in the moment is crucial. And she's loving her life
as it is.

Mt. Hope

Besides Blogging, and Photography,
Home-schooling is now her passion.

Usually Heidi is behind the lens but this week she's going to be in mine.
This is her birthday week!

She's beautiful and creative,
passionate, and smart.

And these days her life is all about her boys.

Sometimes she's got it all under control,

And sometimes they do.

Life can even get a little BLURRY

So this week will be
Heidi's birthday week here at Treading on Moss. Most of you know her already from Mt. Hope Chronicles. Perhaps, though you might enjoy a mother's view.

Vintage photes to come later in the week.

Living Lovely with Family

In the 50's my family lived in Morocco.( I am in the center). One of my fondest memories of that time is of my dad reading to us in the evenings in this room.
Our very favorites ( and his too ) were Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and Smokey The Cow Horse.

( The first two by Mark Twain, the last by Will James)

He has been painstakingly scanning our old slides so was able to e-mail this one to me.

(I'm sure the only ones who can picture this room are the ones who were there. This photo doesn't do much because of the partition we are in front of. It had wonderful Moroccan arches and a fireplace that we were usually huddled around because it was our only heat. What great memories this photo conjures up for me though! Thanks Dad! )

The next generation ~ game night.
Shannon, Heidi, Holly and John.

Now we get to play games with the grand kids. Wow!
